Water wells built in Mvomero, Bagamoyo, Kilindi and Kikonge reduce the acute shortage of water for students and communities, so learners no longer walk over a kilometre to fetch water.
The water well projects carried out by EGG-Tanzania in various places aim at reducing the suffering caused by acute shortages of water for students and community members near the concerned areas.
Creating community access to clean water reserves improves students' academic performance: learners in these areas used to walk more than one kilometre to find water, and sometimes missed class sessions while doing so.
Wells have been completed in Kilindi village, Singida (25 August 2016), Bagamoyo in Pwani region (26 August 2017), Mvomero in Morogoro (1 March 2018) and Kikonge village, Singida (25 April 2019).
These projects have brought a big impact to schools, health centres and the communities around each well. In some places a water distribution centre was established with more than five other points scattered around the village. Communities describe the projects as a huge blessing, having never believed they could collect water within the school surroundings.
